Erlend Gjestrud at finish!

What are you doing here, Erlend?!

In the uphills towards Mannevatn, I constantly had to connect and pull loose from the sledgeshaft. Then I had to crawl backwards to turn around the sledge, only to find that it soon overturned again. "What the hell are you doing here, Erlend?" I thought, while I wondered if the wind would pick up. Was I going to quit? Was it ok to continue? I considered the situation to be safe, especially since the avalanche danger was low due to the snow conditions. And then I saw a headlamp far up in the hill, and thought: "No, Thomas will get serious competition from me this year too!"

Normal couples go to Paris. You guys choose to do this?

The journalist looks at us, questioning. We have just checked in prior to tomorrow’s race start in Expedition Amundsen, and the organisers have controlled that we have all the required emergency food rations and enough fuel.

- But we have a Paris-sled, Håvard jumps in. And then everybody laughs.
